Vintage African Lozi Bowl | Zambian Tribal Bowl | African Sculptural Container | Wooden Art Object

A large carved hardwood vessel attributed to the Lozi people of Western Zambia.
The form is weighty, with a fitted lid extending into a stylised animal head and tail. The surface is worked with geometric carving, herringbone patterning across the lid and bands of repeating motifs. Small structural bolts are present within the wood, a traditional reinforcement used to stabilise older carved vessels. These elements reflect the piece’s history of use and preservation.

Traditionally, vessels of this type were used to store small valuables, medicinal powders or ritual materials. Both a functional container and a sculptural object. Sourced in the UK.
