An antique Dogon bronze ointment pot from Mali, West Africa, early 20th century. Richly decorated with geometric motifs and reptile detailing, the vessel is supported by a turtle-form base and topped with a figural lid.

Traditionally, Dogon bronze pots of this type were used to store unguents, tobacco or medicinal preparations, and could also serve as oracle vessels.
